Being the southern most of all Australia’s wine growing regions, Tasmania boasts unique growing conditions, across a variety of micro-climates offering specialised flavours and wine quality. It is said that Tasmania’s elegant wines are made from grapes grown in climates similar to those of the famous European regions. The Tasmania wine region is affected by moderate and cooling winds off the Southern Ocean. While cool for most of the year, Tasmania vineyards enjoy a dryer-than-expected climate, with spikes of modest heat in summer periods. The Tasmania wine districts are not only diverse in climate from north to south and in the east, but also affected by a variable growing season.
Although small in area, Tasmanian winemakers focus on quality in the production of much loved wine from varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris.
