Boasting more than 150 wineries and nearly as many cellar doors, the Barossa Valley is arguably Australia's best known wine producing region. It is home to iconic brands like Penfolds, Henschke and Rockfords and is best known as the region that produces the best old vine shiraz in Australia. The Barossa and neighbouring Eden Valley also prides itself on crafting some of the country’s best quality wine based on varieties including Riesling, Semillon, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. The district has a long held reputation for its fortified wine which can be traced back to the early German settlers in the area who first identified the valley as being suitable for wine grape production. The history of the area is no better represented than by the Seppeltsfield wines which dates back to the 1850s and the Langmiel freedom range which is produced from 160 year old Shiraz vines.
